Ford inserts shall be a solid tubular type 304 stainless steel (ASTM A240) design with a flare on one end to prevent the insert from sliding beyond the end of the service line. The insert body shall have a key lock construction with a minimum of two key locks to maintain the solid structural integrity for its intended purpose. The insert will also have at least one convex dimple located on the outside surface to help secure it within the service line during installation. Ford Stainless Steel Inserts are suitable and recommended for use polyethylene pipe or tubing of standard water works tubing dimensions, when properly installed and maintained under normal water works service conditions. Polyethylene pipe or tubing installations without inserts are susceptible to constriction of the tubing from the outside force exerted by the compression connection. Stainless steel internal inserts adhere to ANSI/NSF61 in compliance with the United States Safe Drinking Water Act.
