Olympic Arlington, WA 98223 Re: NW Hardwoods New Sawmill Building ���� Arlington, WA Dear Dave: We have reviewed the submittal by Burns Services. We recommend issuance of a permit to install the fire sprinklers, subject to the following comments: SHEET 1 of 2 - ACCEPTED AS NOTED 1. Details on the dry valves are insufficient. Provide a low air pressure alarm. The alarm pressure switch must be mounted with no shutoff valve between the switch and the dry valve. Combine all drains and pipe to outside. Provide an air maintenance device for each dry valve. They should be the "plant air" type with a pressure regulating valve. Provide an accelerator on the 6" dry valve. 2. Pipe is not adequately braced. Add 2-1/2" lateral sway brace at column F.5, 9. 3. Supports are missing and not detailed. Provide hangers per NFPA-13, 15' maximum spacing. Double-nut the rod at each hose valve to stabilize that system. 4. No system air capacities are given. Provide air capacities of each system on Sheet 2 resubmittal. 5. The grooved coupling type is unclear. All grooved couplings to be rigid or braced. 6. An air supply is not indicated. Provide a tank mounted air compressor with automatic controls or describe the plant air source used. Show these details on sheet #2 resubmittal. Install all dry piping with slope to allow complete draining. 2. All piping must be hydrostatically tested at 200 psi and remain leak-free for two hours. Contact the Arlington Fire Department when work is ready for testing and before enclosing of piping. Provide the City with properly completed test certificates bearing a Washington State Competentcy Level 3 Stamp. 3. The drawing is not "stamped". Resubmit drawing with a current Washington State Competentcy Level 3 Stamp. HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS: ACCEPTABLE AS NOTED 1 . This occupancy (sawmill) is extra hazard, Group 1, per UBC Std. 9-1, A-1-4.7.3.1. This requires a design criteria of .237 / 4,000 sq. ft., determined from figure 5-2.3, adjusted for sprinkler temperature and a dry system. A density of .20 / 4,000 sq. ft. is calculated. No remedial action is required, as the systems, as designed will produce the extra density. 2. Provide Washington State Competentcy Level 3 stamped calculations.
