Examples are installations or alterations of gas piping, replacement of any HVAC equipment, Heat Pumps, Exhaust Systems, Paint Booths, Above-ground and Under-ground tanks with piping, etc. The City of Arlington does not require a permit to replace an existing gas clothes dryer, stovetop ranges, ovens, or gas log if there is no gas piping installed or altered. The purpose of RTU-1 is to provide heating, ventilation and air conditioning for the Technical Offices. 2. RTU-1 is a 7.5 ton packaged gas-heat, electric-cooled HVAC unit with modulating 100% outside air economizer, gravity relief dampers. 3. RTU-1 is controlled by a standard 7-day programmable microprocessor thermostat with separate weekend settings, night setback, 5 degree deadband between heating and cooling and 2-hour override function. 4. RTU-1 is provided with a duct smoke detector wired to shut-down the unit when smoke is sensed in the return air stream. Rooftop Unit RTU-1 Functions To Be Tested: 1. Supply Fan 2. Gas Furnace 3. Cooling Compressor 4. Ventilation Minimum Outside Air Damper 5. 100% Modulating Economizer 6. Duct Smoke Detector Rooftop Unit RTU-1 Testing Criteria: 1. Supply Fan to operate when scheduled by thermostat to operate during occupied hours. 2. Gas Furnace to operate when space temperature falls to heating setpoint of 70F (adjustable) and thermostat calls for heat. 3. Cooling Compressor to operate when space temperature rises to cooling setpoint of 75F (adjustable) and thermostat calls for 2"d stage cooling. 4. Ventilation Minimum Outside Air Damper to open to minimum position when fan is running and thermostat is in occupied mode. 5. 100% Modulating Economizer to provide outside air cooling when thermostat calls for cooling and outside air is below 60F. 6. Duct Smoke Detector: Contractor to use canned smoke introduced to the return air stream to verify that the duct smoke detector shuts off the HVAC unit when smoke is sensed in the return air. Night Setback Function: Contractor shall adjust the thermostat schedule to simulate unoccupied mode and adjust the night setback setpoint such that the HVAC unit turns on in heating mode with the outside air damper closed for night setback heating. Alternatively, the contractor can visit the facility after hours and wait for the temperature to naturally fall to setback temperature of 60F (adjustable) and observe the HVAC unit turn on in heating mode with outside air dampers closed and bring the space temperature up to 62F and turn off again. This function will be tested during late winter/ early spring conditions when the evenings will be cold enough for a good test. Exhaust Fan EF-1 1. Design Intent: Remove hot air from test area. 2. Function to Test: Automatic control with reverse-acting, cooling-only electric thermostat. 3. Test: Turn thermostat up to highest setting to verify that fan does not run. Turn thermostat gradually down until it clicks, indicating room temperature, and verify that fan starts and gravity backdraft damper opens. 4. Setpoint Adjustment: Set thermostat to 75F. 5. Variable Speed Controls: Adjust thermostat so that fan operates. (See above.) Manually turn speed controller up and verify that fan speed increases. Manually turn speed controller down and verify that fan speed decreases. Set fan speed per Owner's direction. 6. Testing Conditions: No special conditions required. Exhaust Fan EF-2 1. Design Intent: Remove hot air from Load Bank Area. 2. Function to Test: Automatic control with reverse-acting, cooling-only electric thermostat. 3. Test: Turn thermostat up to highest setting to verify that fan does not run. Turn thermostat gradually down until it clicks, indicating room temperature, and verify that fan starts and gravity backdraft damper opens. 4. Setpoint Adjustment: Set thermostat to 75F. 5. Testing Conditions: No special conditions required. Exhaust Fan EF-3 1. Design Intent: Shower exhaust. 2. Function to Test: Automatic control interlock with light switch. 3. Test: Contractor to operate showers on full hot water for minimum 10 minutes to simulate operating conditions. Turn lights on and listen for exhaust fan sound. Utilize airflow hood to measure exhaust air flow. Observe steam being drawn into exhaust intake. Turn lights off and verify that exhaust fan turns off. 4. Testing Conditions: Conditions to be warm and humid. Exhaust Fan EF-4 1 . Design Intent: Remove hot air from Training Room. Page 2 of 3 2. Testing Conditions: No special conditions required. Soldering Hood 2: 1. Design Intent: Remove smoke from soldering tasks being performed on bench below exhaust hood. 2. Function to Test: Manual operation with switch. Contractor to operate exhaust fan and spray canned smoke into hood and verify that smoke is removed via exhaust duct. 3. The purpose of this letter review is for the replacement of an existing HVAC unit for a new unit. The existing building utilized structural steel frames at approximately quarter points of the building, The roof framing is nearly flat(Low slope)using a metal purlin system to span between the frames. The internal office mezzanine level uses prefabricated press plated open web trusses to span the between steel beam lines. The new units include: RTU-1—Existing RTU to remain. RTU-2—Existing RTU to remain RTU-3—Existing RTU to remain RTU-4—Proposed replacement unit in current location with new unit. The new unit is a Model 48HC-D08 and weights 925#. In review of the vertical support of the unit,DEI understands the new unit to be of similar weight to the existing, however DEI would recommend that the installation confirms that the unit curb bears onto a minimum of two roof purlins spanning the distance between the steel frames. The new metal curb should be attached with a minimum of(4) #10 tek screws into each of the two purlins(8)fasteners total. Laterally the seismic anchorage force is 358#and is addressed through securely attaching the unit to the mechanical curb and the curb to the roof purlins. Dibble Engineers appreciates your business. The existing building utilized structural steel fraines at Approximately quarter points of the building. The roof framing is nearly flat(Low slope) using a metal purlin system to span between the frames. The internal office level uses prefabricated press plated open web trusses to span the between steel beam lines. The scope of this letter is limited to the following structural modifications: 1. The addition ora new> xg'roll-up door at the east exterior wall. 2. The addition of a new 2W interior wall,on which 3150 lb of electrical equipment will be mounted. In review of the new door location,DEI has determined that the existing roof purlins and floor trusses run parallel to the new opening and do not bear on the wall to be removed, DEI recommends installing a W Doug Fir 42 header at the new opening,with(2)king,stud and(1)trim stud at the bearing ends. For the new electrical Mount wait, DEI recommends constructing the wall of2x6 Hem Fir#2 studs at 2"on center. Loth sides should be sheathed in Ya"APA rated plywood attached Nvith 8d common nai Is at 4"at panel edges and 12" field. The wall base plate should be a pressure treated 2x6,which should be attached to the existing concrete slab on grade with'/z"diameter,5"long TITEN HD concrete screws and 3"x3"plate washers at 36" on center. The double top plate should be attached to the existing steel beam above using A"bent plate per the attached detail,Sly-6. Units to be mounted to the wall include(10)Radian inverters weighing 150 lb each,(I )FX inverters weighing 75 lb each,and(6) FNf charge controllers weighing 40 lb each. All units may be mounted to the plywood of the new electrical mount wall using 410 sheet metal screivs at each corner as shown on attached elevations SK-7 and SK-8.
