ESR-1078-ECC-ES Report for Fasten Master Threaded Wood Fasteners Introduction and Summary This report provides engineering analysis of 3 new decks in Arlington,WAto be built by Sound Services and Construction. Deck design is by Sound Services and Construction. This report in combination with sketches by Sound Services and Construction(Attachment 1)constitutes an engineered package. All details not specifically addressed shall be in accordance with 2018 IBC(Ref a)and 2018 IRC(Ref b). Wood allowable stresses are in accordance with 2018 NDS(Ref c). The decks include a 6-6"x 4'front porch deck and stairs,a 10'x 6'rear lower deck and stairs and 21'x 10' rear upper deck. The right hand portion of the rear upper deck is attached to the existing cantilevered joists supporting a bump out section of the 2nd floor. Special attachment detail for attaching to the cantilevered joists to ensure that the deck ledger and existing rim board are adequately attached to the joists is provided in the drawings Attachment(1).The existing 2x10 floor joists are adequate to support the existing bumpout wall and the new deck with the existing maximum joist cantilever of 1'-9". Decks are designed for 60 psf live load, 10 psf dead load, 110 mph exposure B wind and seismic zone D1 perASCE 7-16(Ref d). (Note:The home owner has indicated that at some time in the future, they would like to add a hot tub on the deck. To accommodate the possible future addition of a hot tub,the outer 5 ft of the deck on each side of the stairs will be designed for 100 psf.) Beam sizing is done using StruCalc with results in Attachment 2. All joists, ledger boards, girders and columns are to be pressure treated lumber. Pressure treatment shall meet AWPAUse Category 3B. Allowable soil bearing is 1500 psf. Deck railing to be commercially available railing installed per manufacturer's instructions. All engineering for deck railing is to be provided by the manufacturer. Deck railing is to be installed per manufacturer's instructions. Deck ledger is attached to the existing rim board with two rows of FastenMaster LedgerLok screws or equal 8"oc staggered.(16"oc each row.) Lateral loads are taken out at the building attachment with four Simpson DTT1 Z or equal fittings. One fitting attached within 24"of each end of the ledger board as shown in the standard ledger detail Attachment(1). Page 1 of 4 Barrentine Deck C R Rock, PE Ledger attachments, stair attachment and knee brace design are detailed in Attachment(1). The footings for the decks support posts are detailed in Attachment(1). Deck Beam&Footing Summary Beam sizing is done using StruCalc with results in Attachment(2). Special attachment detail for attaching to the cantilevered joists to ensure that the deck ledger and existing rim board are adequately attached to the joists is provided in the drawings Attachment(1).The existing 2x10 floor joists are adequate to support the existing bumpout wall and the new deck with the existing maximum joist cantilever of V-9". Decks are designed for 60 psf live load,10 psf dead load, 110 mph exposure B wind and seismic zone D1 perASCE 7-16(Ref d). Pressure treatment shall meetAWPA Use Category 3B. Allowable soil bearing is 1500 psf. Deck railing to be commercially available railing installed per manufacturer's instructions. All engineering for deck railing is to be provided by the manufacturer. Deck railing is to be installed per manufacturer's instructions. Deck ledger is attached to the existing hrn board with two rows of FastenMaster LedgerLok screws or equal 8"oc staggered.(16"oc each row.) Lateral loads are taken out at the building attachment with four Simpson DTT1 Z or equal fittings. One fitting attached within 24"of each end of the ledger board as shown in the standard ledger detail Attachment(1).
