On the above referenced project, the roof structural framing has been reviewed for loading due to the installation of the solar PV system to the roof. The existing roof framing was originally designed as solar ready to support a PV system with a maximum self weight allowance of 5 pounds per square foot in addition to other design roof dead loads. The proposed PV system has maximum weight of 3.39 pounds per square foot which meets this requirement, thus the roof framing is deemed to have the required structural capacity to support the proposed PV system. This review is only for the connection of the PV system to the roof framing. The structural review only applies to the section of the roof that is directly supporting the solar PV system. The observed roof framing is described below. Existing Roof Structure Roof Structure: Open Web Steel joists supported by structural steel beams,1 1/2"-18 gage metal deck Roofing Material: Torchdown Roof Pitch: 1.80° (Flat Roof) Design Criteria: Applicable Codes=2018 IBC/IEBC as amended and adopted by Washington State&local jurisdiction Wind Speed=110 mph(Vult),Exposure Category B,Risk Category=IV PV System DL=3.39 psf Proposed PV System Type:Ballasted-Unirac RM10 racking with U-Anchor 2600 SIBS mechanical attachments Based on this evaluation,I certify that the connection of the PV system to the roof framing meet or exceed the requirements of the applicable existing building and/or new building provisions adopted/referenced above. The PV system shall be connected to the roof using the U-Anchor 2600-SBS mechanical attachments(MA).The MA's shall be installed on the existing metal decking using a minimum of 4(four)#14 OMG heavy duty roofing fasteners symmetrically installed on the anchor plate(see attached fastener data sheet),or other fasteners with equivalent structural capacity and mechanical properties. All fasteners shall fully penetrate the decking with a minimum of 1/4 inches of penetration beyond the underside of the decking. All fasteners shall be stainless steel or galvanized. The number and location of MA's shall be per PV drawings by A&R Solar.Installation of fasteners and MA's shall comply with the manufacturers published installation instructions. The scope of this report is strictly limited only to an evaluation of the underlying roof supporting framing. The design of all non-structural items related to the installation of the PV system, including but not limited to the solar panel racking system(mounts, hardware, etc),electrical and mechanical engineering, roofing and drainage is the responsibility of others. The solar panel ballast design and specifications are to be designed and reviewed by the racking manufacturer.Additionally, the capacity of the solar racking system and connections to resist uplift, overturning and sliding forces due to wind and seismic loading is to be provided by the racking manufacturer and shall be installed per the manufacturer's specifications. All solar PV panels, mounts and hardware shall be installed per manufacturer specifications and within specified design limitations. All waterproofing around roof penetrations is the responsibility of others.Equilux Engineers assumes no responsibility for misuse or improper installation of the solar PV panels or racking system. The U2600-SBS includes a factory prepared SIBS cover membrane -^s and separator disk. The U2600-SBS provides a fastened, watertight, warranted attachment for hot or cold process applied roofing systems. -> Advantages • Lightweight: 24 oz. (680 grams). • Fast installation, approximate rate of 12 per man hour. Front Installs on any surface from flat to vertical. U-Anchor Attachment The U2600-SBS is attached by fastening through the roofing assembly and into the structural decking with 2-8 approved fasteners, as directed by project specific engineering. Depending on the roofing manufacturer's requirements, 1 or 2 plies of membrane may be required. The membrane flashing is adhered in place over the primed roof membrane, followed by the separator disk, per the roofing manufacturer's specific methods. In so% Glass(n=1,5) order for a PV module to produce as much power as possible, the cover Module with ARC(n=1,25) glass is optimized for high transmission. This is why Hanwha Q CELLS d 70% • Hanwha QCELLS(TUV) PV modules have cutting-edge anti-reflective coatings(ARC) in order 60% to maximize transmission and limiting the possibility for reflections. 0 50% 0 y 40% Each of these actions, transmission, absorption and reflection, can be 1Z 30% measured as a proportion of the original light falling on the surface, ,% eg. T+A+ R = 100%. For our purposes it is only necessary to look zo% at the proportion of this original light,as the intensity of the light fall- 10% --------------- ing on the surface of the PV module glass will change with numerous o% ----- 0 20 40 60 80 factors including different system configurations, locations and times Angle of Incidence(") of both the day and year. Figure 2:Reflection vs.incident angle Initial light CONCLUSION Incident angle Transmitted From both the theoretical and measured data it is clear that ARC glass Iight used in all Hanwha Q CELLS currently produced PV modules reflects less light than both naturally occurring features, such as bodies of water, and Rght cted common manmade structures. Moreover for incident angles below 55o less than 4%of the initial light is reflected away from the PV module. Figure 1: Light falling on a surface EMAIL:service@q-cells.com The proportion of light reflected from any surface is dependent upon the TEL:+49(0)3494 66 99 23222 angle at which the light hits the glass, called the incident angle where o 0' is direct light and 90` is parallel to the surface. The proportion of reflected light can be calculated for different incident angles using the Fresnel equations. For a sheet of glass it would be necessary to calcu- late the reflection twice, once for the frontside of the glass and once for the backside. However as the rear of PV module glass is connected to an EVA and light absorbing PV cell it is only necessary to consider — the frontside effect. To calculate the reflection the refractive index of y the involved media is needed. As an example air has an index of 1,for 0 normal "window" glass the value is around 1.5, for water it is 1.33 3 and for PV module glass it is around 1.25. From these figures alone it is possible to, correctly, presume that the glass used in PV modules creates less reflected light than normal "window" glass or a body of water. Figure 2 shows the curves of these different cases, along with —_ measurements by TUV Rheinland of Hanwha Q CELLS modules. It can be seen that the proportion of light reflected starts close to zero but rises as the incident angle gets closer to 90o.
