Prior to obtaining SHD approval for your proposed office building,the following items must be satisfactorily addressed: ,1. Water Supply Your proposed source of water appears to be the dug well on the south end of the property. Since it will be no longer serving a single family residence, the well must meet all current public water system requirements. Based upon the fact that dug wells are not approved as a source for public water, and that the office building, the septic tank and portions of the drainfield are all within the 100 foot protective radius of the existing well, it appears that you will have to find an alternative approved source of public water for this project. Please contact Kevin Plemel, Senior Water Sanitarian, in this office, for additional information regarding public water supply requirements. 2. On-Site Sewage Disposal Based upon the tax number provided by you, a 1973 on-site sewage system "as-built" was located. Although the original address does not match the new one, it appears that a 3-bedroom drainfield was installed and approved on the property. SHD must receive information regarding the estimated number of employees working in the office in order to verify that the existing drainfield can accommodate the proposed sewage flows. In addition, the tank must be pumped, and the structural integrity of the tank and inlet/ outlet baffles must be checked. D-box and trench location must be verified, and a 100% replacement reserve area must be demonstrated. Please contact a certified designer to assist you (list enclosed).
