Karen Latimer,Water Utility Supervisor L/ CITY ` .002 Datm April 4,2002 q QF RLf/VGTp, Rea Utility Review, Building Permit#02-4972,Mike King Warehouse Your fire sprinkler system construction documents submitted with building permit#02-4972 have been reviewed for compliance with cross connection control regulations. To receive approval for occupancy from the Water Departmend, you will need to complete the items listed below. Cross Connection 1. It is unclear from the drawings how the FDC is being configured. It appears that the FDC is being tapped directly from the water main;this will not be allowed. The FDC shall be located on the downstream side of the Double Check Valve Assembly as shown on the drawings, with no direct connection to the city water main. 2. Install the Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA) per city standard. The DCVA may be installed in a vault outside, or in a mechanical room inside as long as the required clearances required are provided in either installation configuration. 3. After the DCVA is installed it will need to be tested by a State of Washington certified Bacldlow Assembly Tester, then be inspected by the City of Arlington Water Department. Provide a copy of the test report prior to calling for inspection. 4. Call for inspections at the following points of construction. a. Priorto covering interior piping. b. Priorto covering underground piping. c. Priorto requesting final inspection by the Building Department. Due to the possibility.of unintended discharges caused by pressure surges, trapped air,or short retard times, waterflow switches that are monitoring wet pipe sprinkler systems should not be used as the sole initiating device to discharge AFFF, deluge, or chemical suppression systems. TESTING The frequency of inspection and testing for the model VSR-F and its associated protective monitoring system should be in accordance with applicable NFPA Codes and Stan-L.ds and/or the authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or more frequently). If provided, the inspector's test valve, that is usually located at the end of the most remote branch line, should always be used for test purposes. If there are no provisions for testing the operation of the flow detection device on the system, application of the VSR-F is not recommended or advisable. A minimum flow of 10 gpm is required to activate this device. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please advise the person responsible for testing of the fire protection system that this system must be tested in accordance with the testing instructions.
