BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
MINUTES
September 9, 1980
Meeting of Arlington Board of Adjustment called to order at 7:30 p.m.
All board members were present except Its. DeRosier.
Other persons present included: Code Enforcement Officer Robert Mulligan,
Tom Malone, John Malone and Kay Thomas.
Chairman Olson noted this meeting was continuation of the 7-29-80 hearing
on the variance request of John Malone. Mr. Malone requests a variance
on the off street parking requirements. lie proposes to construct 12 one
bedroom living units at 117 E. Division, designed primarily for the
elderly. There is no off street parking available on the site.
At the 7-29-80 meeting Mr. Malone was directed to pursue the possibilities
of obtaining nearby property for parking.
Mr. Malone indicated he had looked into purchasing nearby property but
to no avail. Ile was able to negotiate with Mr. Fred Poyner and make
arrangements to rent or lease property at 106 E. Gilman, for space for
approximately 12 - 13 parking spaces. There is a small house on the
property with quite a bit of open area which Mr. Malone will rent.
Mr. Mulligan noted that it looked like probably 18 spaces could be pro-
vided and this use would enhance the property.
Mr. Malone indicated that in the next 5 years they would continue use
of this property as parking and would always provide adequate parking.
Future acquisition of property will always be a good possibility.
Mr. Monty noted that if the lease were lost on the parking lot, the apart-
ments would have to be closed as there wouldn't be the required parking
provided, unless other property were acquired.
My motion of Baylor and Monty it was moved to grant the variance on
the condition that parking would always be provided in accordance with
regulations. Carried.
In other business, Its. Kay Thomas presented her request for variance on
the rear setback at 103 N. Stillaguamish. Its. Thomas owns both lots
and intends to build a residence on the front lot, with a rear set back
of 13' rather then the required 20'.
Mr. Monty questioned Its. Thomas as to why she did not deed over the needed
footage from the rear lot so the set backs could be met.
Mr. Mulligan stated it would then put in jeopardy the set backs of the
existing residence.
By motion of Kraski and Monty the variance request was granted. Carried.
There being no further business, meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
