The nearest hydrant is located at the north end property line of Northwest Brick & Stone Co. The required distance for hydrant locations is 300 feet for commercial buildings. The distance from the existing hydrant to the proposed hydrant location would be 300 feet. This distance combined with the distance of the farthest building at this site would be approx. 900 feet, well in excess of the required distance. Upon completion of this review a recommendation has been made by Dean Olsen Arlington Fire Chief, Terry Castle Arlington Water Dept. and myself, to require installation of additional hydrants at this location. The property is quite flat with no indication of any off-site runoff adding to the flow. The soil is an Everett series with the following average soil log: 0-4" sod 4"-24" reddish-brown gravelly loamy sand 24"-60" gravelly coarse sand The percolation average rate taken at a depth of 36" was faster than 3 M/I. An exact rate was not obtainable as the water infiltrated the soil at a rate which was difficult to measure. The soil is about the same as the area around it which has existing drain- fields and storm drainage systems. The soil is acceptable for both a drain- field and storm drainage system.
