Subject:Inspection residential roof structure and to determine roof capacity of the building at
17304 Redhawk Drive, Arlington WA.
An inspection of the subject building was accomplished on March 14th, 2023 to take the
measurements needed to determine if the additional weight of installing Malarkey Windsor
shingle with 1/2" plywood substrate roofing on to the existing trusses and building is acceptable.
At the time several trusses were going to be replaced because of storm damage, when all of old
roofing will be replaced with new heavier Windsor shingles. A detailed inspection of the roof
structure was done, and a structural analysis of the existing structure was performed. It was found
all of the roof structure (trusses and sheathing) as well as the walls, window and door headers,
are acceptable.
Loads on the existing structure are analyzed using the weight of the roofing, plywood, truss
structure, insulation and ceiling weight for the existing trusses for 25 PSF snow load, according
to the 2018 International Building Code. The longest span window and door header is the
Sliding Glass Door off the kitchen/dining room at 6 ft span. The min. required header is 4x8
HF#2, nominal standard header residential framing is to use 2x10 HF#2 for all headers, therefor
all window headers, and wall framing, is acceptable.
The existing roof and framing meets all current structural requirements with the Marlarky
Window shingles.
If you have any questions or are in need of further assistance, please feel free to call or email.
