The submitted drawings have been examined for ccnpliance with the 1988 Edition
of the Uniform Building Code. The following items should be corrected on the
tracings before the permit is issued:
You should ensure that the city agencies such as Planning, Zoning, Public
Works and the Fire Department approve of the project.
The fabricator of the roof trusses should be approved by you prior to
fabrication. Sec. 302(b) .
The truss manufacturer's truss layout should be submitted to verify the
structural check before the permit is issued.
4. The house should be separated from the garage by materials of 1-hour
construction.
a) The 5/8" Type "X" G.W.B. on the rear wall of the garage cannot have
trusses penetrating the G.W.B. Therefore the wallboard should stop at the
ceiling of the garage.
b) The ceiling of the garage from the house to the girder truss should
be 2 layers of 5/8" type "X" G.W.B. Item 21 - 1.1 Table No. 43.6
c) The girder truss should have vertical members attached so no supporting
space exceeds 24" and the 5/8" type "X" G.W.B. on the girder truss should extend
to the roof sheathing.
d) The supports of the girder truss should be protected with 5/8" type ,
"X" G.W.B.
Ducts in garage should have no openings. Sec. 503(d)3.
Electric water heater is an appliance and must be up 18". .
X'Me water heater should have seismic tie-downs.
No plot plan was suLrdtted, so the building should be not closer than 4'-0"
from a property line, because of the roof projections. Sec. 504(b) .

1-2. The effects of eccentric loading should be considered in the design of
Zheel joints for trusses 24" o.c. and spanning more than 35 feet. Calculations
should be submitted by the truss manufacturer prior to the permit being issued
showing that the heel joint connector plates are designed with sufficient
capacity to resist the direct axial stresses imposed on both the top and bottom
chord members by their respective nail, tooth or plug groups using the reduced
allowable connector loads for eccentric loading as shown on Table No. 25-17-P.
Sec. 25.1739 U.B.C. Standards. It should be recognized that in the actual
fabrication the top chord does not tightly bear on the bottom chord.
,-Al- A Header or special trusses should be provided for the toilet roan
projection. A 4" X 12" H.F.#2 is not sufficient.
,,-d A 7.34 sq. in. bearing area for hip-master trusses should be provided.
/15"' The 4" X 12" headers supporting the hip masters are inadequate in bending
and/or shear. A 6" X 12" should be provided, or a glu-lam.
Provide bearing areas under the girder trusses as required for their
reactions.
The minimum net foundation ventilation is 12.17 sq. feet or 16.22 sq. feet
gross. This is 2337 sq. in. or 24 - 14" X 7" .vents. Sec. 2516(c) .
The shear panels on the front of the building which are less than 4'-0"
wide should have plywood on each side of the studs and nailed with 10 d nails
at 4" o.c. into double studs, or engineering calculations should be submitted.
/The anchor bolt sizes and lengths should be noted for the hold-downs noted.
/26. The exterior wall footings should be poured in undisturbed soil to a depth
of 66". Footnote 2, Table No. 29-A.

should be corrected. The roof plan shows roof jacks. Sec. A-A shows a ridge
vent. The area shown on the roof plan should be corrected. The ventilation
required is the net area, which is 8.93 sq. feet or 1286 sq. inches, one-half
of which can be the eave openings and 693 sq. in. gross area in the roof jacks.
