Proposed driveway insulation of the backyard of 701 N. Newberry St., Arlington, WA 98223
We propose to install a new gravel driveway measuring 20 feet and width by 33 feet in
length, located in the rear yard area with access off of Gilman Street. It will be 2.5 ft away
from the neighboring fence located to each of the property. This area will be excavated to
depth of 4 inches below the existing sidewalk elevation to allow for proper base and
surface material layers
1. Excavation- Removal of existing topsoil and level the site to the depth of 4 inches
from the sidewalk back
2. Base insulation- install 2 inches of crushed gravel to create a stable drainage
supporting subbase
3. Weed prevention and stabilization- ï¬ll the stabilizer grid with grout-grade crushed
gravel, insurance compaction throughout
4. The ï¬nal surface will set approximately .5 to 1 inch above the stabilizer grid
providing a clean ï¬nish look well I’m sure in stability and permeability

Hello,
The residential zoning verification for a driveway installation at 701 Newberry St has been
approved with the following conditions:
• Civil permit required prior to installation. Type 1 Driveway Approach per R-220.
• Driveways shall be impervious surface (concrete and/or asphalt) and utilize LID
drainage when feasible. (AMC20.48.044.A.3)
• No gravel allowable pursuant to AMC 20.72.060 Parking Area Surfaces. (a) All
parking areas shall be graded and surfaced with asphalt, concrete or other material
that will provide equivalent protection against potholes, erosion and dust.
• Refer to asphalt patch detail for saw cutting and patching for driveway installation,
ROW inspection after installed.
• See Arlington Design and Construction Standards and Specifications, Chapters 2-
3.09 and 2-20 for additional requirements.
The next step will be submitting a Civil permit application for the work. The applications
can be found and submitted on our website. If you have any trouble submitting online, you
