Present: Mayor Larson, Steve Baker, Dick Butner, Linda Byrnes, Scott Solla, Marilyn Oertle,
Allen Johnson, Nelson Beazley, Paul Ellis, David Kuhl, Bill Blake, Rob Putnam, Kristin
Banfield, Jim Kelly, Jim Chase, Julie Good, Cristy Brubaker, and Steve Peiffle.
Council members absent: Chris Raezer, Sally Lien
The Arlington City Council Retreat began at 1 PM.
The City Council and key staff discussed the following:
2011 Budmet
Using a PowerPoint presentation, City Administrator Allen Johnson and Finance Director Jim
Chase reviewed the 2011 budget situation and offered solutions to close the gap between
revenues and expenditures. City leadership has reviewed the current budget and is proposing a
4.5% reduction in all budgets funded from the General Fund. This reduction will address the gap
in the 2011 budget.
Staff was praised on cost-cutting in all departments and their willingness to work short-staffed
through this economic downturn. Council requested information on the Legislative budget. Staff
indicated it would be provided to all Council members in the coming days. Council also
requested that the budget information be shared with all staff and for directors to encourage
employees to share any cost -saving ideas that they might have.
2012 Budget
Staff also briefly discussed concerns regarding the 2012 budget (projected deficit of $1,220,184)
and the need to find ways to increase revenues for 2012 and beyond.
