HomeMy WebLinkAboutSigned Minutes 01-04-16Minutes of the Arlington City Council Meeting Council Chambers 110 East Third January 4, 2016 Council Members Present: Mike Hopson, Jan Schuette, Debora Nelson, Chris Raezer, Sue Weiss, Jesica Stickles, and Marilyn Oertle Council Members Absent: None City Staff Present: Mayor Barbara Tolbert, Paul Ellis, Kristin Banfield, Kristin Garcia, Sheri Amundson, Bruce Stedman, Jonathan Ventura, Eric Scott, Maxine Jenft, Wendy Van Der Meersche, and City Attorney Steve Peiffle Also Known to be Present: Bill Kinney, Jan Link, Sherri Phelps, Barb Butner, Jan Bauer, Kirk Boxleitner, Cristy Brubaker, Craig Christianson, Jim Weiss, and Jan Hopson Mayor Tolbert called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the pledge of allegiance followed. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Mayor Pro Tern Chris Raezer moved to approve the Agenda. Jesica Stickles seconded the motion which passed with a unanimous vote. INTRODUCTIONS OF SPECIAL GUESTS AND PRESENTATIONS The Oath of office was given to Mayor Barb Tolbert and council members Marilyn Oertle, Mike Hopson, and Sue Weiss, by City Attorney Steve Peiffle. PROCLAMATIONS PUBLIC COMMENT Jan Link, from Academic Link Outreach, spoke regarding a request for academic support for middle schools through her program, LEARNING LAB. She distributed handouts to council members and staff, with a request for the adoption of a resolution of support to be drafted by City staff. CONSENT AGENDA Mayor Pro Tern Chris Raezer moved and Marilyn Oertle seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda which was unanimously carried to approve the following Consent Agenda items: 1. Minutes of the December 21, 2015 meeting Page 1 of 2 Minutes of the City of Arlington City Council Meeting January 4 2016 2. Accounts Payable: EFT Payments and Claims Checks #86117 through #86185 dated December 22, 2015 through December 30, 2015 in the amount of $277,252.21 and EFT Payments and Claim Checks #86186 through #86208 dated January 1, 2016 through January 4, 2016 for $55,083.89 and EFT Payments and Payroll Checks #28544 through #28565 for the period December 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015 for $1,289,906.74. PUBLIC HEARING None NEW BUSINESS Arlington Boys & Girls Club presentation Unit Director Bill Kinney of the Arlington Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County updated council members about the club. He stated that the new teen center should be completed by the end of 2016. ADMINISTRATOR & STAFF REPORTS None COUNCIL MEMBER REPORTS and MAYOR'S REPORT Jan Schuette gave a brief report, while Mike Hopson, Debora Nelson, Chris Raezer, Sue Weiss, Jesica Stickles, and Marilyn Oertle had nothing to report at this time. EXECUTIVE SESSION. City Attorney Steve Peiffle indicated the need for an Executive Session to discuss pending or potential litigation [RCW 42.30.110(1)(i)] to last approximately 15 minutes. 7:21:18 Council in recess. 7:40:20 Council reconvened.
