City Council Special Meeting

Councilmembers Present: Mike Hopson, Michele Blythe, Jan Schuette, Marilyn Oertle,
Jesica Stickles, and Debora Nelson.
Council Members Absent: None.
Staff Present: Mayor Barb Tolbert, Paul Ellis, James Trefry, Bryan Terry, Dave Ryan, Marc
Hayes, Jonathan Ventura, City Attorney Steve Peiffle, and Wendy Van Der Meersche.
Also Known to be Present: Mark Tingley, Heather Logan, Avery Hufford, Don Vanney, Tracy
Cuajao, Holly Sloan -Buchanan, Robert Cosgrove, Lindsay Dunn, Jan Bauer, Terry Marsh, Barb
Marsh, Sue Weiss, Craig Christianson, Cristy Brubaker, and Sid Logan.
Mayor Barb Tolbert called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., and the Pledge of Allegiance and
roll call followed.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Mayor Pro Tem Jesica Stickles moved to approve the agenda as presented. Councilmember
Marilyn Oertle seconded the motion, which passed with a unanimous vote.
NEW BUSINESS
Interviews were conducted by Councilmembers for open Council Position No. 2. Seven
applicants drew numbers for their place in the queue. Applicant Brad Sibley was not in
attendance. All applicants were asked the same series of questions.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mayor Tolbert recessed the meeting at 6:12 p.m. for Councilmembers to review and discuss
the qualifications of the candidates pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(h). The Mayor indicated
the executive session would last until 7:00 p.m.
City Council reconvened into regular session at 7:01 p.m. Mayor Tolbert and each
Councilmember addressed the group.
Mayor Tolbert called for a motion. Councilmember Mike Hopson moved, and
Councilmember Debora Nelson seconded the motion to appoint Don Vanney to vacant
Position No. 2 of the Arlington City Council. The motion passed 4-2.

ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at 7:21 p.m.
