West Ave Arlington WA 98223 Project: Structural analysis of existing roof for new HVAC roof unit for office at 3533 172nd St NE, Arlington WA 98223 The subject existing building roof structure was detailed inspected, and a structural analysis was done for the weight of a new heavy HVAC unit to the room about 20 ft from the front wall. The vertical loads were analyzed according to the requirements of the 2021/ International Building Code (ASCE 7- 16). The following design conditions for the analysis are based on the site conditions or according to the minimum code requirements: Roof Snow load: 25 PSF Suspended ceiling plus utilities 12 PSF Roof type/weight: Torch down /10 PSF Total Roof loading: 47 PSF Weight of new HVAC assembly 1277 lbs total The existing roof framing and center beam is inadequate to support the new load on the room. The trusses need to be reinforced, and a column has to be added to the center GLB to reduced it’s total span. plans are marked according to these requirements. Lateral bracing was not affected by the changes to the roof structure, therefor no lateral analysis was accomplished. A detailed inspection was done for the affected structure. All of the remaining existing structure was not changed. Therefore a complete analysis of the building was not done. It was done for all the structure that was affected by the addition of the new heavier HVAC unit only. These reinforcements are to add a 6x6 wood or steel column somewhere along the middle of the beam span, it can be located anywhere within ten ft of the beam end. Also, a 2x8 DF#2 that is 5 ft long, is nailed to the side of the truss top cord at each truss under the HVAC unit. Nailed with (2)16d mails every 12”, doubler should overlap over beam top by 3” min bearing. See the accompanying details.
